چکیده

In this work, the localization, density, morphology and ultrastructure of secretory structures in aerial organs of Flourensia campestris (FC) and F. oolepis (FO) (Asteraceae) by means of a combination of light, fluorescence, transmission (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM) were examined. The possible role of secretory structures in the production and secretion of the phytotoxic sesquiterpene (-)-hamanasic acid A ((-)HAA) in both species was also assessed. Capitate glandular trichomes were found in all reproductive organs of FC and FO, and were being reported for the first time. These glandular trichomes, typically associated to edges and veins, were of the same type as those already described for vegetative organs, and were abundant in involucral bracts and corolla of tubulose and ligulate flowers. Their density in reproductive organs of both species was similar (ca. 30/mm2) and lower than that found in leaves (ca. 100/mm2) and stems (ca. 160/mm2 in FC, and up to 650/mm2 in FO). Glandular trichomes in vegetative organs followed a speciesCorresponding authors.

Antibacterial and Cytotoxic Activity of Compounds Isolated from Flourensia oolepis

The antibacterial and cytotoxic effects of metabolites isolated from an antibacterial extract of Flourensia oolepis were evaluated. Bioguided fractionation led to five flavonoids, identified as 2',4'-dihydroxychalcone (1), isoliquiritigenin (2), pinocembrin (3), 7-hydroxyflavanone (4), and 7,4'-dihydroxy-3'-methoxyflavanone (5). Compound 1 showed the highest antibacterial effect, with minimum i...

The Effect of Retinoic Acid on Seminal Vesicle Epithelial Cell

Purpose: The seminal vesicles are androgen dependent exocrine glands producing protein-rich secretion. The retinoic acid has been implicated as a signaling molecule for the seminal vesicle development. In the present study, the effect of retinoic acid on seminal vesicle epithelial cell of neonatal mouse was investigated. Materials and Methods: Newborn male N-MRI mice were injected intraperiton...

Constituents of two Flourensia species.

The MeOH extract of aerial parts of Flourensia riparia Grisebach (Asteraceae) afforded a sesquiterpene lactone, 4beta-hydroxy-4,10alpha-dimethyl-7alphaH,8alphaH-eudesman-11-ene-8,12-olide, together with septuplinolide, its isomer at positions C-5 and C-10. In addition, known flavonoids, p-hydroxyacetophenone derivatives, carabrone and isoalantolactone were identified. Three known flavonoids and...

Volume Density, Distribution, and Ultrastructure of Secretory and Basolateral Membranes and Mitochondria Predict Parietal Cell Secretory (Dys)function

Acid secretion in gastric parietal cells requires highly coordinated membrane transport and vesicle trafficking. Histologically, consensus defines acid secretion as the ratio of the volume density (Vd) of canalicular and apical membranes (CAMs) to tubulovesicular (TV) membranes, a value which varies widely under normal conditions. Examination of numerous achlorhydric mice made it clear that thi...

O-14: Effect of Kisspeptin on Testicular Tissue and Accessory Sex Glands, Seminal Vesicle and Prostate, in Prepubertal Rats

Background: Hypothalamus-derived kisspeptins are critical regulators of reproduction in nearly all mammalian species including the humans. These small peptides mediate their actions through the GnRH loop system. How kisspeptins regulate gonadal maturation in sexually immature male mammals remains elusive. To address this, kisspeptin was administered as subchronic (12 days) twice daily i. p. dos...
